ACRAS

Who are we?

The goal of our association, which is listed in the directory of scientific societies, is to promote collaboration between performers and researchers (university affiliated or not) to work toward the reconstruction of stage practices current in France in the 17th and 18th centuries (declamation, singing, dance, stage action, scenery, etc.). It encourages open dialogue and experimentation, free from the specific requirements and time restraints imposed by the staging of a production.
It does not intend to compete with any existing institution, but, on the contrary, to facilitate contacts and collaborations.
It aims to bring together researchers and performers from different countries.

Our wishes for 2015

Villereau, January12 2015
Dear Friends,
We wish you a very happy 2015, with success and fulfillment in your research and performances.
During this past year, our email list has kept you abreast of activities in which we have participated or which we support. In particular, we were a major partner in the four sessions of the international seminar Déclamation, chant et danse en France aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles: niveaux, lieux de performance, courants et filiations, which took place at Versailles, Tours, and Montpellier. The seminar was organized principally by the Centre d’Études Supérieures de la Renaissance (CESR) and the Institut de recherche sur la Renaissance, le Classicisme et les Lumières, in collaboration with other prestigious organizations. A series of studies that originated in this seminar will be published in 2015 on the website of the CESR.
We would like to remind you that the collection of articles from the conference at Nantes, Le Tableau et la Scène, Peinture et mise en scène du répertoire héroïque dans la première moitié du XVIIIe siècle, Autour des figures des Coypel, containing truly innovative contributions to the subject and published in collaboration with the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes, is still available for the price of 23€.
We are also pleased that other publications are underway, under the auspices of institutions that have taken on projects that we initiated some time ago. A case in point is the collection of studies resulting from the conference on December 15, 2013, devoted to La danse française entre Renaissance et baroque, Le manuscrit Instruction pour dancer (vers 1610), which will also be available on the website of the CESR. The preparation of an edition of B. de Bacilly’s L’Art de bien chanter, as well as that of the proceedings of the conference on Bacilly et his Remarques curieuses sur l’art de bien chanter, is progressing nicely.
Concurrently with these activities, we continue our research program on La danse française à la lumière des traités allemands (1700-1720). Although an official publication is still in the future, other projects are profiting greatly from the results obtained to this point.
In addition, the reputation of our association grows as its members participate in national and international conferences and publish important books and articles. You are also aware that we play an important role as participants or consultants in a variety of research programs.
Finally, we are sure that you appreciate the information shared with you on our email list, as well as the improvements made to our internet site, in particular the continuing updates to the Actualités (News) and Archives pages.
We are proud of the reputation we have as a serious, rigorous association open to a variety of approaches, which allows us to collaborate with researchers and artists from different disciplines and several types of institutions. However, we still receive no outside financial support, and all of our activities are made possible by the loyalty of our partners, the material and moral support that they bring us, along with the active support of our members.
For this reason, you will easily understand that we include our reminder about dues for the calendar year 2015.
Dues levels remain the same as in previous years:
  • Regular member (paying taxes in France): 30 €
  • Students, members not paying taxes in France: 11€
  • Benefactors: 60€.
For members who pay taxes in France, the payment of dues makes one eligible for a tax credit of 66% of the sum paid as a contribution, which leaves 11€ from a dues payment of 30€ and 21€ from a payment of 60€. A receipt for the amount of dues paid will be sent to all members who pay 30€ or more.
Dues should be sent to:
Mme Marie-Thérèse MOUREY,
3, Villa Saint-Thibault,
F – 92270 BOIS-COLOMBES
FRANCE
In order to make our records as clear as possible, we prefer payment by check, except in unusual situations, and we ask you to avoid foreign checks, even those payable in euros.
Thanks to your help, we hope to live up to your expectations, and we naturally remain open to your suggestions and requests.
Again, dear friends, our best wishes for the new year,
The Executive Committee
